10-11 Uncompahgre Plateau Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration field trip. We’re looking forward to re-connecting with old friends and making new ones. Please see the agenda for details.

Here are some key points:

Friday, June 10th:  Meet at the Public Lands office at 2465 S. Towndend Ave. in Montrose at 8:30 am. We’ll plan carpools and leave at 9:00 am. We’ll be visiting the sites of prescribed burns, wildfires, and a current timber sale. We expect to be done around 5:30 pm. Camping will be available at the 25 Mesa Guard Station. Bring an instrument for singing around the campfire!

Saturday, June 11th:  If you’re not camping, meet at the 25 Mesa Guard Station at 9:00 am (down USFS Road 558 off of USFS 503–Delta-Nucla Road). We’ll compare current forests with General Land Office records from the late 1800s and early 1900s, and date some trees. Then we’ll drive to the Columbine Pass area to view the spruce regeneration study area. We may stop at other sites if there’s interest.

Food:  The Uncompahgre Partnership will provide dinner at 25 Mesa on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning (donations are accepted; there will be vegetarian, dairy and gluten-free options). CSU’s Colorado Forest Restoration Institute will provide snacks and some bottled water for Friday and Saturday. Participants should bring their own personal lunches for Friday and/or Saturday afternoons. Campers and attendees should bring drinking water, and you may want to bring your favorite snacks. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a hat, layers, and sunscreen.

Camping details:  There is non-potable water, electricity, kitchen and bathroom facilities available, but please plan to bring all necessary drinking water for

fieldwork and camping Friday and Saturday. Please plan to tent camp within the 25 Mesa compound. There are a limited number (5) beds available inside the guard station people who are not able to tent camp. You may want to bring a camp chair.
